What to do if you are involved in an accident

Stay Calm

Try and remain as calm as possible, this will reduce stress levels keeping you in control.

Notify the Police

This is advisable and they will tell you if they need to attend the incident.

Obtain Third Party Details

  • Drivers Name, Address
  • Vehicle Owner’s Name, Address (vehicle may be company owned)
  • Contact Number
  • Vehicle Details; Make, Model, Colour & Registration Number

Take a note of all relevant information

Exact location, Time, Date, Independent witness details, Weather and road conditions, Emergency services attending (e.g. Police Officer I.D.)

Top Tip - Make a note of any pre-existing damage to third party vehicles (the other party may attempt to claim for this)

Take Pictures

It is a really good idea to always keep a camera in your vehicle. Taking pictures at the scene of an accident can provide vital evidence when your insurers are dealing with your claim in deciding who is responsible.

Claims for damage to Containers (not owned by you), Tarpaulins, Sheets, Ropes, Chains and similar should also be directed to the Goods In Transit insurer.
